Multiple media sources have reported that Yusra Shater, a Yemeni citizen detained in the Political Security Prison in Marib Governorate since September 2022, has been released.
According to the sources, Shater’s release comes after more than two years of detention on charges of collaborating with Ansar Allah, charges that human rights groups have denied, describing her arrest as arbitrary.
Yusra Shater, who works in the healthcare sector, was reportedly arrested on September 24, 2022, while participating in an immunization campaign against COVID-19 as part of a World Health Organization (WHO) team.
Her release comes amid growing human rights calls for the release of all political detainees in Yemen and an end to the arrest of civilians over political disputes.
