Israel Bombs Sana’a Airport, Blocking Thousands of Yemenis from Hajj

Condemnation | 07-05-2025

The “Insan” Organization for Rights and Freedoms expresses its utmost condemnation and profound human outrage at the barbaric Israeli airstrikes that directly targeted civilian infrastructure in Yemen on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 7.

Foremost among the targets was Sana’a International Airport, which was rendered completely out of service due to the extensive destruction of its terminals and aircraft. Other affected sites included the Dhahban and Haziz power stations, the Amran Cement Factory, and power transformers in the Al-Man and Kowlat Jadr areas. Additionally, the densely populated Asr area was bombed, resulting in three fatalities and 35 injuries, according to the Ministry of Health in Sana’a.

The Israeli bombardment also deliberately destroyed three civilian aircraft belonging to Yemenia Airways stationed at the airport. This attack occurred just hours after Saudi Arabia announced its approval for the first flights to transport Yemeni pilgrims from Sana’a to Jeddah. This adds another humanitarian dimension to the crime, effectively denying thousands of Yemenis their right to perform religious rites.

Hours before this crime, Israeli warplanes carried out similar attacks on the Port of Hudaydah and the Bajil Cement Factory, killing three civilians and injuring at least 42 others. These actions reflect an escalating pattern of systematic aggression that blatantly violates the Geneva Conventions and constitutes a flagrant breach of international humanitarian law.

Attempts to portray these attacks as military necessities or security measures are baseless fabrications and blatant disinformation. The comprehensive destruction of civilian facilities serves no legitimate military objective and instead reveals a clear intent to eliminate the means of survival of the Yemeni people. These acts fall under the classification of war crimes and crimes against humanity and rise to the level of genocide under the 1948 United Nations Convention.

The “Insan” Organization holds the international community fully responsible for its disgraceful silence and willful disregard of these crimes. It calls for urgent and concrete actions to hold the perpetrators accountable and to prevent further violations targeting unarmed civilians and non-military service facilities.

The organization warns that continued international silence is not only complicity but amounts to active participation in the crime and a shameful surrender to the Israeli war machine, which thrives on conflict and tramples international law with impunity.
