The “Insan” Organization for Rights and Freedoms strongly condemns the airstrikes carried out by Israeli warplanes on Al-Hudaydah Governorate on the evening of Friday, May 16, 2025. The attacks directly targeted vital civilian facilities, including the ports of Al-Hudaydah, Ras Issa, and Al-Salif. According to the Ministry of Health in Sana’a, the strikes initially resulted in the death of one civilian worker and the injury of nine others — a toll that is expected to rise.
This military action, which struck service facilities considered essential to the Yemeni civilian population, constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and amounts to a full-fledged war crime.
The “Insan” Organization affirms that targeting civilian infrastructure protected under the Geneva Conventions represents a systematic behavior that requires international accountability.
The severity of this escalation is further heightened by open Israeli threats to carry out assassinations against Yemeni figures, which constitutes a dangerous breach of the rules of engagement and a violation of the sovereignty of an independent state. Such actions must be included among the cases submitted to the International Court of Justice.
The “Insan” Organization calls on the international community—particularly the Human Rights Council and the High Contracting Parties to the Geneva Conventions—to take urgent action to protect civilians in Yemen and to launch an independent international investigation to hold accountable those responsible for these attacks, which have claimed the lives of many civilians. The organization also demands the rejection of the policy of impunity that encourages further crimes in the region.
