Insan Organization for Rights and Freedoms strongly condemns the Israeli Knesset’s approval, on Monday evening, March 30, of a law mandating the death penalty for Palestinian prisoners without the possibility of pardon and through expedited procedures. This step represents a dangerous and unprecedented escalation.
This law constitutes a flagrant violation of the principles of international human rights law, particularly the right to life and the guarantees of a fair trial. It also reflects clear discrimination based on identity and contradicts humanitarian standards that prohibit cruel and inhuman punishment.
Insan Organization for Rights and Freedoms warns that the adoption of such legislation would undermine the foundations of justice, exacerbate tensions, and open the door to arbitrary practices against prisoners, especially in the absence of adequate legal safeguards.
Accordingly, we call on the international community, including its relevant institutions, to take urgent action to pressure for the suspension of this law’s implementation, ensure respect for international legal norms, and protect the rights of Palestinian prisoners in accordance with relevant international conventions.
We also stress the need to hold those responsible for these violations accountable and to take practical steps to halt any legislation or measures that undermine human dignity and fundamental rights.
