Insan Organization for Rights and Freedoms condemns the continued and repeated Israeli attacks on hospitals, healthcare facilities, and medical personnel, the latest of which targeted the vicinity of Hiram Hospital in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre, resulting in the injury of 25 members of the medical and administrative staff.
The organization affirms that targeting medical facilities constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, which guarantee the protection of hospitals and healthcare workers during armed conflicts. It also reflects ongoing disregard for civilian lives as well as for international laws and norms.
Insan Organization for Rights and Freedoms believes that the repeated occurrence of such violations, without any deterrent international stance, has encouraged the Israeli occupation to continue committing crimes against civilians and humanitarian facilities amid international silence and failure to provide the necessary protection for the healthcare sector.
The organization also calls on the International Criminal Court to take these violations into consideration within the cases currently under review, to launch serious investigations, and to hold those responsible accountable in order to ensure that perpetrators of these crimes do not escape punishment.
