The number of victims in Aden continues to rise due to soaring temperatures and prolonged power outages, amid the authorities’ inability to find sustainable solutions to the worsening crisis, which has become a serious threat to the lives of residents, particularly the elderly, children, and people with health conditions.
In the latest of these tragedies, citizen Ali Al-Naqeeb (Abu Sultan) passed away following a sudden health complication believed to be linked to high blood pressure, extreme heat, and the effects of continuous electricity outages. He was transferred to a hospital in an attempt to save his life, but he did not survive.
Local sources reported that the deceased was well known among residents of Sirah District as a balloon vendor for children. Despite his difficult living conditions, he was known for bringing joy to children's faces. His passing sparked widespread sorrow among local residents, who remembered him for his kindness, humility, and good character.
This death comes at a time when Aden is experiencing an unprecedented deterioration in electricity services, with power cuts exceeding 19 hours per day. As a result, residents are deprived of even the most basic means of protection against the suffocating heatwaves, while health risks continue to increase for the most vulnerable groups.
Over the past few days, local media outlets have reported cases of fainting and heat exhaustion among elderly people and children, reflecting the scale of the humanitarian suffering caused by the collapse of essential services and the continued neglect of residents’ hardships.
This incident highlights that the electricity crisis in Aden is no longer merely a service-related problem; it has become a direct threat to the rights to life and health, amid worsening living conditions and the absence of effective solutions, despite years of promises and publicly announced support aimed at improving public services.
Many citizens hold the internationally recognized government and coalition countries responsible for the ongoing deterioration, calling for urgent action to resolve the electricity crisis and protect civilians from its consequences before it claims more lives and further deepens the humanitarian catastrophe facing the city.
