Occupation Expands the Circle of Death: Thousands of Civilian Victims in Gaza and Lebanon

International Interests | 21-05-2026

A young man with special needs bid farewell to eleven members of his family who were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the town of Deir Qanoun Al-Nahr in southern Lebanon, in one of the most heartbreaking scenes reflecting the scale of the tragedy endured by civilians under continuous bombardment.

According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, the strike killed 14 civilians, including four children, and injured three others with varying degrees of wounds, following hours of renewed deadly escalation targeting southern areas. Amid the rubble and cries of grief, the small town turned into an open space of mourning, while survivors struggled to cope with the shock of losing entire families within moments.

Official Lebanese statistics indicate that the cumulative death toll from the Israeli aggression on Lebanon since March 2 has reached 3,067 killed and 9,301 injured, amid ongoing airstrikes targeting residential neighborhoods and civilian infrastructure, further worsening the humanitarian and psychological conditions of the population, particularly children, women, and people with disabilities.

In the Gaza Strip, the Israeli war machine continues to claim more victims despite talks of truce agreements and ceasefires.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that hospitals across the Strip received two martyrs and 27 new injuries over the past 24 hours, while rescue teams continue recovering victims from beneath the rubble.

According to the ministry, the total number of victims since the announcement of the ceasefire on October 11 has reached around 883 killed, in addition to 2,648 injuries and 776 recovered bodies, reflecting the ongoing humanitarian danger and Israel’s failure to uphold its commitments before the international community.

The cumulative casualty toll in the Gaza Strip has meanwhile risen to 72,775 killed and 172,750 injured, marking one of the deadliest humanitarian catastrophes in modern history, amid growing warnings of a complete collapse of the healthcare and humanitarian sectors and the continued suffering of hundreds of thousands of besieged civilians.

These daily scenes confirm that civilians — especially children, the sick, and persons with disabilities — continue to pay the highest price for Israeli aggression, while the international community remains unable to halt the ongoing violations and ensure effective protection for civilian populations.
