Thousands of Activists Worldwide Unite to Break the Siege on Gaza

International Interests | 16-04-2026

Humanitarian efforts to break the Israeli-imposed blockade on the Gaza Strip continue.

In the latest developments, Youssef Ajjisa, head of the International Committee to Break the Siege on Gaza, announced in recent hours the movement of the “Steadfastness Fleet,” which is currently heading toward Italian ports in preparation for continuing its journey toward Gaza’s shores.

This initiative comes as part of an international humanitarian campaign aimed at lifting the Israeli blockade that has been imposed on the enclave for more than two and a half years.

In a media statement, Ajjisa explained that the presence of the ships in Italian ports at this stage is intended to complete preparations and conduct peaceful training, ahead of resuming the journey toward their final destination.

He added that the fleet began sailing in early April from the French port of Marseille, followed by a second wave departing from the Spanish port of Barcelona.

These maritime missions are part of coordinated efforts among supporting international organizations, including the French initiative “A Thousand Sailors” (Mille Marins), which seeks to affirm international solidarity with the people of Gaza.

These efforts focus on mobilizing global public support in response to the ongoing Israeli blockade, as well as the acts of violence targeting civilians in the Strip.

Ajjisa stressed the importance of international solidarity at this critical moment, noting that the blockade remains in place alongside continued Israeli actions targeting Palestinian civilians.

The departure of ships from various European ports has received strong backing from supporters and civil activists, reflecting growing global public engagement—an encouraging sign of increasing international participation.

In the coming days, further departures are expected from ports in Italy, Greece, and Turkey by the end of April, in what is seen as an escalatory step aimed at expanding international involvement in this humanitarian campaign.

Despite the different points of departure, Ajjisa emphasized that coordination among the involved organizations remains at a high level, noting that the sea continues to serve as a unifying factor for all participants in this peaceful initiative.

He also called on people of conscience worldwide to provide full support to the fleet and to ensure the necessary resources for the success of these missions, expressing hope that these initiatives will achieve their humanitarian objectives and help alleviate the suffering of Gaza’s population.

The ongoing efforts through the “Steadfastness Fleet” indicate that international solidarity with Gaza is growing, and that hope remains alive for breaking the blockade and ending the suffering of civilians in the Strip.
